The Brunswick Town Council has issued a statement on the tragedy in Lewiston.
The Brunswick Town Council expresses our deepest sorrow for the events in Lewiston last night. We are heartbroken over the unspeakable violence and senseless loss of life. Part of Maine’s beauty is our interconnectedness; Lewiston's loss is our loss. We know that many in Brunswick are personally affected by this tragedy, and are mourning the loss of friends and family. Our thoughts go out to them. We also have many staff members, both at the Town and the School Department who are residents of the Lewiston and Lisbon areas. Our hearts go out to them as well as, as we pray for their continued safety.
We join with the governor, our federal legislators, state delegation, and our neighboring towns in commending the actions of all involved first responders, as well as those who will be on the front line of this tragedy for the days and weeks to come. We are especially grateful to the Brunswick Police Department who have lent their assistance to Lewiston, both from the initial response to Schemengees and Just-In-Time Recreation and throughout the subsequent and ongoing search for the suspect.
If you have any information about the incident, please contact the Maine State Police Tip Line at 207.509.9002.

We look forward to joining in both statewide and national conversations about how to prevent events like this from happening over and over again. But for the moment, this crisis continues and we need to grieve and heal. We urge Brunswick residents to stay safe and obey any instructions from our local and state law enforcement. Keep your children a little bit closer today. Reach out and call your neighbor, who may be alone or need a little extra support. We are all grieving in our own way.
