Halloween Pumpkin Decorating
Saturday, October 18 on the Lower Mall
Come celebrate the Halloween season by decorating a pumpkin and enjoying some popcorn with the Brunswick Parks and Rec Department! This program will give kids a chance to decorate their very own 6” pumpkin and participants will then be able to take their pumpkin home for families and neighbors to enjoy. Pumpkins as well as all decorating materials will be supplied. Water and pizza will be available for all participants too! Whether you choose to make your pumpkin spooky or cute you’ll be able to show off your creativity with this festive fall program! Two sessions are available from 10:00am-11:00am and 11:00am-12pm. The cost for this program is $10 for Brunswick Residents and $13 for Non-residents. Pre-registration for this event is required and early registration is highly encouraged!

Family Halloween Window Painting
Sunday, October 19 all along Maine Street
Show off your creativity with this Fall-themed window painting event designed for families! After making a preliminary Autumn or Halloween-themed sketch and having your sketch approved at the Recreation Department, your family may select a storefront window from the available list at the Recreation Center to paint! Paints and brushes will be provided on the day of the event. Don’t delay, since there are a limited number of windows available! The cost for this program is $20 for Brunswick Residents and $27 for Non-residents. Pre-registration for this event is required and early registration is highly encouraged!

Virtual Costume Contest

Slip into your scariest, funniest, most outrageous costume and join in the Brunswick Parks & Recreation Department’s Virtual Halloween Costume Contest on Thursday, October 31 Online via social media hashtag and our department Email! Post your picture on social media using #Brunswickmeparksandrec or send your picture to recprograms@brunswickme.org. Don't forget to include the name of the costume, the name of the person/animal/family in the picture, and the category you are competing in so we can correctly identify you and that’s all there is to it!
We will be awarding a prize from Frosty’s Donuts to one winner in each of the following age categories:
Toddler, Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade, 6th Grade, Family, and Pet(s)
The Annual Halloween Parade and Tent or Treat on the Mall
We are excited to offer everyone’s favorite, FREE Halloween Parade once again followed by a popular event with a twist— Tent or Treat! Slip into your scariest, funniest, most outrageous costume and join in the Annual Halloween Parade where individuals of all ages are invited to “Monster March” down Maine Street. The parade will be held on Friday, October 31 at 4:30 p.m., starting on the Mall in downtown Brunswick, 191 Maine Street, Brunswick, ME 04011.
Event Timeline:
4:15pm - Gather on the Mall by Veterans Plaza
4:30pm - Parade Starts
5:00pm - Parade Returns to Mall
5:05pm - Tent or Treat & Photo Booth Zone on Mall
6:15pm - Event Ends
Individuals marching in the parade need to assemble on the Mall by 4:15 p.m. to be lined up. The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. There is no age requirement to participate in the parade, but parents are encouraged to march with their children. Brunswick’s Parks & Recreation, Police and Fire Departments will join forces to provide safe escort and traffic control.
The parade will start at the Mall on the Park Row side and move down Maine Street, making a right turn onto Bank Street, a right turn onto Federal Street, then a right onto School Street and the parade will end back at the Mall. Immediately following the parade, at approximately 5:05pm, children are invited to participate in the Tent or Treat event where local organizations and volunteers will be handing out candy from decorated tents on the Mall. There will also be a Photo Booth Zone for families to take pictures for the virtual costume contest with fun, spooky, Halloween theme backdrops!
