Recreational Shellfish Licenses

  1. Annual Recreational Licenses

2025-26 Annual Recreational Licenses go on sale April 7, 2025 and are valid until April 5, 2026.

2026-27 Annual Recreational Licenses go on sale April 6, 2026.

Recreational Shellfish Licenses are available to residents and non-residents. The license is good for a one-year period beginning the first Monday in April and allows the license holder to harvest one peck (approx. 12 lbs) per day for personal consumption only.  Applicants must appear in person to fill out an license application. Note that the number of available licenses is set annually; non-resident licenses are issued at a rate of one for every ten sold to residents, and the non-resident must get on a waiting list by applying in person at the Town Clerk’s office

The non-resident recreational license process has changed. Individuals interested in applying for a non-resident recreational license may apply for the lottery process, either in person or online by completing the Non-Resident Recreational Lottery Application. The online form will not be accessible until the four day window. Paper forms are available below.

The dates to apply for the lottery will be four business days before the first Monday in April. For the 2026-27 licenses year, the dates will be March 30, 2026 – April 2, 2026. The applicant’s names will be drawn in a lottery on the first Monday in April (April 6, 2026) to decide the order of eligibility to purchase a license. Applicants will not be notified of where they stand on the list, they may contact the Clerk’s Department at (207) 725-6658 to see where their name is listed. If an applicant applies after the lottery deadline, their names will be added to the end of the list.

Non-resident recreational licenses will still be issued at a rate of one for every ten sold to residents.

  • Resident License: $50, free for those 62 years of age and older.
  • Non-Resident License: $75, but free for those 62 years of age and older.

Day licenses are limited to one peck (approx. 12 lbs.)  per day for personal consumption only.
