Brunswick Hydroelectric Dam Relicensing Information

Brunswick_Hydro_Dam

The Brunswick Hydroelectric Station, operated by Brookfield Renewable, supplies power to Central Maine Power’s electrical grid. Constructed between 1979 and 1982, it is the lowermost dam on the Androscoggin River, located at the head of tide. Brookfield Renewable acquired the dam in 2013 and has operated it since. The dam licensing will expire in 2029.  In May 2024, Brookfield Renewable began the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) licensing renewal process, a comprehensive and lengthy review of the dams operating procedures and structural inadequacies. Below, you will find documents and articles related to this renewal process, along with various community support letters and resolutions for enhanced fish passage.
