Dog Licenses

  1. Dog Registration

All dogs over the age of six months are required to be licensed each year in the town where they reside. You must provide a valid rabies certificate (not a shot record), along with proof of neutering or spaying. New dogs need to be licensed at 6 months of age or within ten days of the dog having moved to Brunswick.

Licenses expire annually on December 31st, and the following year's licenses go on sale October 15th

For new registrants, please fill out a Dog Registration Form for each dog and provide a copy of their Rabies Certificate (not a shot record) along with payment. You can mail the form and payment to the Clerk’s Office, complete the form in person, or fill out an electronic form and send the payment separately. Please note that the electronic form only allows for one dog at a time, so you'll need to submit the form for each dog.

Dog Registration Forms:

Renewals do not require a dog registration form. However, if the Rabies Certificate on file is expired, a new copy must be provided. Your veterinarian’s office can email it to us at clerks@brunswickme.gov or fax it to (207) 725-6663.

Cancelling Dog Registration:

If you no longer have your dog(s), please call our office at (207) 725-6658, option 4, or reply to this email with your name, address, and the dog’s name.

If you’re interested in registering your dog online, you may do so through the State of Maine Animal Welfare website. Tags will be mailed from their state office, and additional transaction fees will apply. Online registration is open from October 15th until January 31st.

To register online, you will need the previous year's tag number and the last name the dog was registered under.

The tag number will need to be entered as the previous license year, a dash, and then the tag number. For example, the previous year was 25, and the tag number is 123456, you will enter 25-123456. Or enter it exactly how it is presented on the license.
