Food Service Licenses

  1. Annual Food Service Licenses

Anyone, whether an individual, business, or corporation, who prepares and sells unpackaged food must obtain an annual food service license. This license is valid for one year, starting on July 1st and ending on June 30th. The types of licenses include but are not limited to, the following.

  • Bakery
  • Bed and breakfast lodging establishment
  • Commercial caterer
  • Delicatessen
  • Fish market (re: prepared seafood)
  • Home caterer
  • Hotel
  • Ice cream shop
  • Inn
  • Lounge with limited food menu
  • Mobile-food unit
  • Motel
  • Neighborhood grocery
  • Restaurant
  • Take-out food establishment (coffee, popcorn, hotdogs, mall vendors, ice cream, mobile carts, prepared seafood vendor, etc.)

Applicants must include a copy of their State of Maine Department of Health & Human Services Health Inspection Certificate, or their State of Maine Department of Agriculture Certificate with their application and payment. (Sample Certificate) 

License exemptions are schools, church kitchens, bean suppers, holiday bazaars, and fundraisers.

  1. Temporary Food Service Licenses

Temporary Food Service (1-3 Day) licenses are required for persons, businesses, or corporations that serve unpackaged food for an event, festival, or holiday celebration and wish not to obtain an annual food service license. Temporary food service licenses also require a copy of their State of Maine Department of Health & Human Services Health Inspection Certificate or their State of Maine Department of Agriculture Certificate. If the business is located in another state but serving their unpacked food in Brunswick, they need to contact the state to obtain a State of Maine inspection prior to submitting their application.
